James Ervin Sanders

James Ervin Sanders passed away peacefully Friday April 7, 2023. He was born May 4, 1953 in Smithfield, North Carolina to the late Bert Thomas and Odell Lassiter Sanders. He attended early years of school in New York City, N.Y. as well as Raleigh, North Carolina and graduated from Ligon High School in 1971. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division as a paratrooper, while in the United States Army. He loved to sing, read, cook and many other things. James served as an active member of the South Lumberton Church of Christ for 27 years. 

He leaves behind his wife, Iris Kirby Sanders, a son James Jerel Sanders, a granddaughter Ja'Lissa Campbell, a great grandson Avry Campbell all from Lumberton, North Carolina. He also leaves behind siblings, two sisters: Linda Sanders Singletary (George) of Clayton, North Carolina and Doris Sanders Talbert of Charlotte, North Carolina; three brothers: Rudolph Sanders of Tampa, Florida, Ralph McClain (Betty) and James McLean.

Visitation will be Wednesday April 12, 2023 at McMillan Funeral Home 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. and a graveside service Thursday April 13, 2023 2 p.m. at Meadowbrook City Cemetery with military honors in Lumberton, North Carolina.
